- The Almost Inevitable Ruin of Every Minister . . . And How to Avoid It
"Despite the fact that no one goes into the ministry to be a casualty, the ruin of almost every minister, it seems, is inevitable. For in addition to the high percentage of those who leave the ministry, sometimes it appears that of those who do stay in the ministry, many of them have been ruined in other ways."
. - The Call of God to Preach the Gospel
"Certainty of the call of God is not only necessary for sending you into the ministry, nothing is more essential for keeping you there. . - The Importance of Spiritual Formation in the Training Of Ministers
"While it's true that ministers grow in godliness in the same way as all other Christians, i.e., through the spiritual disciplines, nevertheless, ministers need specialized training in spiritual formation. The spirituality of a preacher, according to Paul's first Pastoral Epistle, has a direct bearing on his hearers: `Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers' (1 Tim. 4:16, NIV)."
